LCVs, driving brand growth
Renault is presenting the next stage in its LCV strategy at the 2026 IAA Transportation show in Hanover. Part of the futurREady strategic plan, this offensive confirms the key role of LCVs in brand growth with five new models planned between now and 2028.
New Trafic Van E-Tech electric is one of the five vehicles in this offensive, which is building on the brand’s strong position on the European market. Renault is consolidating its position as No. 2 on the LCV market, outperforming the market for the fourth quarter in a row. Master is No. 1 in the European large van segment, while Kangoo and Trafic are also on the podium in their respective categories.
NEW TRAFIC VAN E-TECH ELECTRIC
A real game-changer in the electric LCV market
Since 1980, Renault Trafic has supported business users in all their activities. With over 2.8 million units sold, it has established itself as a standard in the medium-sized van segment. Today, New Trafic Van E-Tech electric is marking the next milestone in this story.
Designed and built in Europe at the Sandouville plant in France, New Trafic Van E-Tech electric demonstrates Renault’s commitment to developing and producing desirable and technologically advanced vehicles in Europe.
The comprehensive offering includes:
- a panel van, available by the end of the year
- chassis-cab and crew cab versions, to be added to the range in 2027.
Together, these vehicles will address the wide range of requirements in the European medium-sized van market.

Lower running costs
For business users, vehicle range and fast charging are key priorities. They determine productivity, vehicle availability and the total cost of ownership. With a range of over 470 km (WLTP homologation pending), New Trafic Van E-Tech electric is built for both everyday use and longer journeys. In the city, vehicle range can total nearly 690 km, for up to five working days without charging.
This new van is built on Renault Group’s new RGEV medium van platform. With its 800V electrical architecture, it delivers the best fast-charging solution in the LCV segment in Europe. In just 20 minutes, New Trafic Van E-Tech electric can regain up to 280 km of range, and up to 380 km in the city.
As a result, New Trafic Van E-Tech electric brings tangible benefits for business users, with a total cost of ownership that is up to 10% lower than an equivalent ICE version.
Better working conditions
New Trafic Van E-Tech electric is designed to make life simpler, more comfortable and safer for business users. Handling agility is on a par with Renault Clio, with a turning circle of 10.3 metres, making it particularly well-suited to urban environments and manoeuvring in tight spaces. Just 1.89 metres tall, it can access all standard underground car parks.
Front and side visibility contribute to safer and more confident ride. Driving comfort is similar to that of a passenger car, with the multi-link rear suspension, ergonomic driving position and quiet operation characteristic of electric vehicles. These features contribute to better working conditions while helping drivers to remain calm and productive throughout their working day.
An upgradable and customisable van
New Trafic Van E-Tech electric introduces a major innovation. It is the first Renault Group vehicle and the first LCV in Europe to feature SDV (software-defined van) architecture for centralised, flexible operation.
This simplified yet powerful architecture is based on a smart, connected operating system, able to control, analyse and rapidly update vehicle functions. It replaces 80 ECUs with just two supercomputers running on CAR OS (Operating System for Cars), an Android-based operating system developed in partnership with Google.
This architecture delivers a range of benefits for the customer: regular updates to Trafic Van E-Tech electric, a highly personalised driving experience, enhanced safety through predictive maintenance, and a higher residual value thanks to continuous vehicle updates.
By making advanced use of all available data, the brand is able to bring business customers new services that reflect their uses and needs even more closely (more details on the next page, in the section on Renault uptimize).
SDV technology will give business customers access to new features throughout the vehicle’s service life, in the same way as a computer or smartphone.

LCV fundamentals still very much present
New Trafic Van E-Tech electric also maintains all the fundamentals expected of a true LCV: up to 5.8 m³ of load capacity, a payload of 1.3 tonnes, towing capacity of 2 tonnes, space for three Euro pallets and a load height of 53 cm.

New Trafic Van E-Tech electric, designed for greater sustainability and decarbonisation
Renault’s new electric van significantly reduces its environmental impact across its entire lifecycle, taking into account every stage from design and manufacturing to use and end-of-life management, following a comprehensive “cradle-to-grave” approach.
The carbon footprint of New Trafic Van E-Tech electric is reduced by more than 45% compared with a diesel van of equivalent size. Based on a lifecycle assessment over 200,000 km (WLTP range increased by 20% to reflect real-world emissions) and using the average European electricity mix, the new-generation Trafic emits 33 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent (tCO₂e), compared with approximately 63 tonnes of CO₂ for a comparable diesel-powered vehicle.
This significant decarbonisation achievement is the result of combining electrification with outstanding efficiency. By striking the optimal balance between driving range, battery capacity and vehicle weight, Trafic Van E-Tech electric delivers up to 470 km of range with an 81 kWh battery, representing one of the best performances on the market relative to the energy onboard.
Its optimised aerodynamics, delivering a 6% improvement in drag efficiency (SCx), further reduce energy consumption, while its powertrain, with an efficiency exceeding 90%, ranks among the benchmark solutions in its segment. Manufactured in France at the Sandouville plant using low-carbon energy, New Trafic Van E-Tech electric is also produced close to Europe’s largest light commercial vehicle markets, helping to further reduce its overall environmental footprint.
RENAULT EXPERTISE IN CONVERSIONS
Trafic Van E-Tech electric, designed for easy conversion
For an LCV, efficiency starts with its ability to meet the specific needs of each trade. Right from the start of the design process, Trafic Van E-Tech electric was developed with the aim of making all types of modification and conversion easier.
The flat floor, generously dimensioned load space – with 1.30 metres of space between the wheels – and the payload (1.3 tonnes for both the panel van and chassis versions) make it easy to fit out or convert the vehicle as required.
New Trafic Van E-Tech electric ships with Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionalities. This makes it possible to charge electrical appliances, on a building site, for example, from a socket in the load compartment. Planned for the near future, an ePTO (electric power take-off) function will make it easier to integrate heavy-duty conversions, such as a refrigeration unit or ambulance equipment, with charging power of up to 3.6 kWh and 10 kWh respectively. Convertor Companion is also a real asset. This Renault innovation lets body converters integrate the controls associated with vehicle conversions directly into the openR link multimedia system in the form of dedicated apps. As a result, users have centralised access to all the features specific to their conversion on a single interface, with no need for an additional screen dedicated to the conversion.
A comprehensive conversion solution, designed for business users
Renault offers a comprehensive conversion service, structured in three complementary levels.
The first level, converted by Renault, involves conversions carried out directly at Renault’s three LCV plants in France (Maubeuge, Sandouville and Batilly). This plant-based integration ensures the highest standards of quality and efficiency. It is ideal for the most frequently requested conversions, such as crew cabs or high-volume vans. Every vehicle with the “converted by Renault” label reflects the brand’s commitment to simple, reliable solutions that add value.
The second level is managed by Qstomize, a conversion specialist wholly owned by Renault Group. Located at Renault sites, its workshops cater to a wide range of needs, from workshop vehicles for key customers to highly specialised conversions, such as vehicles for people with reduced mobility.
The third level is based on a network of 300 certified body converters across Europe. Each partner is audited every three years to ensure compliance with Renault’s quality and management standards. More than just suppliers, these body converters are partners, actively contributing to the development and upgrading of Renault’s LCV range.
With this unique three-tier approach, Renault is able to deliver the right conversion solution for every business need.

RENAULT UPTIMIZE
Maximising the availability of customers’ LCVs
When an LCV comes to a stop, business comes to a stop too. In response, Renault is stepping up its efforts with Renault uptimize, available from 2027. This complete, advanced programme by Renault is designed to maximise vehicle availability, optimise fleet performance and increase reliability and efficiency.
Fewer visits to the workshop and less downtime make a real difference to day-to-day life. The aim is simple: to halve vehicle downtime in the event of an incident.
Using Software-Defined Vehicle (SDV) technology, Renault uptimize uses real-time vehicle data and artificial intelligence to make the transition from a reactive maintenance approach to a proactive optimisation approach.
Renault uptimize is based on three pillars:
- Smart data for planning and optimisation
The architecture of the Software-Defined Van provides more data than before, making it possible to predict potential incidents before they occur, for more predictive maintenance and less unscheduled downtime.The programme also uses artificial intelligence to optimise maintenance scheduling by grouping operations. This reduces the frequency and duration of workshop visits while maximising vehicle availability.
Fleet managers belonging to the Renault uptimize programme also gain a simplified overview of their connected fleet, with information such as mileage, energy consumption, route planning, charging, the eco-driving score and the safety score.
- Customer care: faster, more personalised support
In the event of an incident, Renault uptimize provides customers with personalised, priority support from the Renault network, with no appointment required. Each case is managed by our network, combining remote diagnostics with dedicated B2B after-sales expertise. This allows for faster problem resolution, so vehicles can be returned to service more quickly.This quality of service is underpinned by the expertise of 400 Renault Pro+ centres forming a dense network across Europe, all exclusively dedicated to business customers.
- In-vehicle apps for greater efficiency
Renault will also supply an “energy & safety control” app to automatically apply the fleet manager’s required efficiency, performance and safety settings to selected vehicles.
By optimising the management of energy, driving modes and maximum speeds, this solution will contribute to vehicle range, operational efficiency and greater safety for both drivers and other road users.With the support of Renault, customers will also be able to create their in-vehicle app, tailored to their business activities and needs. In this way, companies will be able to further improve operational efficiency (e.g. for last-mile deliveries) while optimising costs.
