As parts of the UK brace for another spell of hot weather, just a week after record-breaking temperatures swept across the country, London Stansted is highlighting a range of cooler destinations where summer temperatures are often more comfortable.
While many popular Mediterranean resorts are also expected to see temperatures climb into the 30s, destinations such as Scandinavia and the Irish coast typically remain in the high teens or low twenties, offering a refreshing alternative for travellers looking to escape the heat.
From Stansted, passengers can choose from more than 200 destinations, serving more European destinations than any other UK airport, making it easy to swap soaring temperatures for cooler climates.Â
Among the cooler options this summer are:
- Copenhagen (Denmark) – average summer temperature around 20°C
- Gothenburg (Sweden) – around 19°C, with coastal breezes
- Stockholm (Sweden) – typically 20–22°C in summer
- Oslo (Norway) – around 20–22°C, with long daylight hours
- Helsinki (Finland) – averaging 18–20°C
- Funchal (Madeira) – typically 23–27°C, offering warm sunshine and Atlantic sea breezes without the extreme temperatures.
For those wanting to stay a little closer to home, the UK and Ireland offer equally mild conditions:
- Edinburgh (Scotland) – around 18–20°C, ideal for city exploring
- Dublin (Ireland) – typically 17–19°C
- Cork (Ireland) – around 17–19°C with a coastal feel
- Kerry (Ireland) – mild and often breezy at 16–18°C
- Knock (Ireland) – cooler conditions, averaging 15–17°C
These destinations provide a welcome alternative for travellers looking to avoid extreme heat while still making the most of a summer getaway.
Ciaran Brannigan, Commercial Director at London Stansted, said:Â
“Not everyone wants to spend their holiday in 30 degree heat and, with more than 200 destinations available from Stansted, there are plenty of options where you can enjoy everything a summer getaway has to offer without the extremes. Whether you’re looking for a genuinely cooler escape in Scandinavia or Ireland, or somewhere like Madeira where you can still enjoy plenty of sunshine without the extremes, there are lots of options available from Stansted this summer.”
