Police Release Image of Suspect in Braintree Bank Robbery

Detectives investigating a bank robbery in Braintree have released an image of a man they are hoping the public can identify.

A man, carrying what has been described as a handgun, entered the Halifax branch in Great Square shortly after 8.55am on Friday 2 January.

He demanded money from staff and left with an amount of cash.

Following extensive CCTV enquiries, officers believe the suspect then left the town centre via Market Street before continuing down St Michaels Lane and Notley Road.

He is also thought to have entered John Ray Park from Flitch Way through the entrance near the allotments.

Detective Inspector Frazer Low said:

“I appreciate this image does not clearly show the man’s face but I believe someone will have seen him.

“Since the incident we have explored a number of lines of investigation and continue to make a series of enquiries.

“I am asking the public, especially those living in the areas surrounding the park to check any CCTV from 9am onwards. Equally anybody who recognises the man pictured, his clothing, or the bike.

“If you have any information please contact us.”

Anyone with information, CCTV, dashcam or other footage related to the incident is asked to get in touch.

Please quote the crime reference number 42/873/26.
