Dealerships are continuing to invest in digital retail technologies, but one of the most visible parts of the customer journey has often remained manual, with vehicle pricing and showroom displays still requiring manual updates whenever prices, finance offers or vehicle information change.
Research shows that 72% of car buyers still prefer to complete their purchase at a dealership, highlighting the continued importance of the physical showroom experience. At the same time, 52% of buyers say transparent pricing makes them more likely to purchase from a dealership, while 42% expect pricing to remain consistent between online listings and what they see on the forecourt.
Automotive technology specialist AutoTalker is helping dealerships bridge that gap with a connected Digital Vehicle Pricing platform that synchronises live dealership data directly to digital displays across showrooms and forecourts, ensuring customers always see accurate pricing and vehicle information.
The platform was developed by AutoTalker Founder and CEO Andrew Wood following more than 25 years working within the automotive industry. Having seen dealerships rapidly adopt digital tools across online retailing and internal operations, he identified an opportunity to connect those digital processes with the physical showroom experience.
“Dealerships have invested significantly in digital retailing, websites and Dealer Management Systems, but the vehicle on the forecourt has often remained disconnected from those systems,” said Andrew Wood, Founder and CEO of AutoTalker.
“The challenge was not just creating a digital price display. It was building a platform that connected live vehicle data, pricing, finance messaging and customer information in a way that fitted how automotive retailers actually operate.”
The shift comes as dealerships continue to expand their investment in digital retail technologies. Industry research shows that 84% of dealerships now use some form of digital retail technology, yet many showroom merchandising processes remain disconnected from those systems, creating additional administration and increasing the risk of inconsistent pricing or vehicle information.
Unlike generic electronic labelling systems originally developed for supermarkets and general retail environments, AutoTalker has been built specifically for automotive retailers. The platform combines digital vehicle pricing displays, centralised management software, and mobile functionality, enabling dealerships to manage vehicle pricing, specifications, finance messaging, promotional content, and customer QR codes through one connected system.
The automotive specific platform includes functionality designed around dealership workflows, including live Dealer Management System integration, registration-based vehicle linking, automated Sold and Reserved vehicle displays, and multi-site management capabilities.
The technology is already being adopted by dealerships, demonstrating how connected vehicle merchandising can be implemented across both large-scale retail environments and multi-site dealership groups while creating greater consistency between online vehicle listings and the physical showroom experience.
One established franchised dealership group recently deployed more than 100 AutoTalker digital vehicle pricing displaysacross two locations, replacing traditional paper windscreen price cards with connected digital displays managed through a single platform. The rollout included fully branded display templates, customer QR codes and centralised management, allowing pricing and vehicle information to be updated instantly across both sites.
Following a half day training session, the first dealership completed its transition to digital pricing within a single day, with the second site subsequently configured independently by the dealership team. QR enabled displays also provide customers with an additional way to engage with vehicles on the forecourt, allowing them to access vehicle information, book test drives and submit enquiries directly from the display.
These deployments demonstrate how AutoTalker enables dealerships to modernise vehicle merchandising without requiring them to replace their existing Dealer Management Systems or operational processes, connecting live vehicle data, customer information and digital displays through a single platform.
As dealerships continue to modernise their retail operations, digital vehicle merchandising is becoming an increasingly important part of delivering a connected customer journey. With buyers placing growing importance on transparent, consistent pricing across every touchpoint, technologies that link live dealership systems directly to the showroom are helping retailers improve operational efficiency while enhancing the customer experience.
AutoTalker is available to car, commercial vehicle and leisure vehicle dealerships.
