Thousands of Jet2 customers could be in for the view of a lifetime this summer, as the airline reveals the flights most likely to offer a front-row seat to the 2026 total solar eclipse.
On 12th August 2026, a total solar eclipse will sweep across parts of Europe, including Spain and Portugal. For holidaymakers flying at the right time, the journey could turn into an unforgettable sky-high spectacle.
Jet2 has identified ten scheduled flights operating on the evening of 12th August that could offer staggering eclipse views, based on estimated flight scheduled and timings around totality:
- LS1836 (Ibiza to Bristol scheduled to depart at 20:15 local time / 18:15 UTC): Expected to pass closest to the path of totality over northern Spain and the Bay of Biscay, giving holidaymakers one of the strongest chances of seeing the total eclipse from the air.
- LS1516 (Ibiza to London Stansted scheduled to depart at 21:00 local time / 19:00 UTC): Also expected to fly closest to the total eclipse path, with customers potentially seeing stunning views of the eclipse.
- LS874 (Faro to Manchester scheduled to depart at 19:05 local time / 18:05 UTC): Customers returning from Portugal could fly through a high-coverage eclipse zone, with potential views over western Portugal.
- LS1892 (Tenerife South to Bristol scheduled to depart at 18:00 local time / 18:00 UTC): This route could put holidaymakers close to one of the highest-coverage areas as the aircraft travels towards north-west Spain.
- LS1130 (Agadir Al-Massira to Birmingham International scheduled to depart at 20:00 local time / 19:00 UTC): Those heading home from Morocco could see strong eclipse coverage shortly after departure.
- LS274 (Alicante to Leeds Bradford scheduled to depart at 20:25 local time / 18:25 UTC): Customers may catch a strong partial eclipse from southern Spain, with the setting sun adding to the spectacle.
- LS266 (Málaga to Leeds Bradford , scheduled to depart at 20:35 local time / 18:35 UTC): Another southern Spain route that could give customers a dramatic partial eclipse view during the journey home.
- LS228 (Palma de Mallorca to Leeds Bradford scheduled to depart at 20:40 local time / 18:40 UTC): Shortly after departure from Majorca, holidaymakers could get a partial eclipse view from above the clouds.
- LS258 (Palma de Mallorca to Leeds Bradford scheduled to depart at 21:00 local time / 19:00 UTC): A second Majorca to Leeds service that could give customers a chance to spot the eclipse as they leave the Balearics.
- LS3286 (Zante (Zakynthos) to Liverpool scheduled to depart at 21:00 local time / 18:00 UTC): Customers returning from Greece may get a glimpse of the eclipse as the route approaches western Europe.
Views will depend on weather, flight schedules, seat position and final routing.
Not on one of the flights? Holidaymakers in the Balearics, Spain, Morocco and Portugal could still be in prime position, with the path of totality crossing Majorca, Menorca, Ibiza. A few Jet2 holiday hotspots for eclipse chasers are likely to be Majorca, Menorca and Ibiza which are in the total eclipse zone, as well as Alicante, Costa Blanca, Barcelona, Girona, Costa Brava, Reus, Costa Dorada, Costa de Almeria, the Algarve, Marrakech and Agadir which are also in high-coverage eclipse zones.

- Pack certified solar eclipse glasses – standard sunglasses will not protect your eyes when looking directly at the Sun.
- Protect your phone camera with a certified solar filter if taking photos during the partial phases of the eclipse.
- Have your phone ready, but don’t spend the whole moment behind the screen and tag @Jet2 in your eclipse images.
