DENZA Confirms UK Pricing and Specifications for BAO 5 SUV Starting at £69,500

DENZA has confirmed UK pricing and specifications of the BAO 5, the first SUV from the premium technology-focused brand.

UK customers can now order the BAO 5 in a choice of two trim levels, both of which offer a class-leading level of high technology in their powertrain, chassis and standard equipment.

Elegance: a premium specification that’s as suited to tough terrain as it is to urban environments
The range begins with the Elegance. Priced from £69,500 MRRP, it exudes a premium feel from both its technology and tactility. In the case of the former, the BAO 5 features a 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen with Google built-in, delivering a simple interface and rapid response times. This main screen is flanked by displays for both the driver and the front passenger.

Inside, the DENZA’s specification is second-to-none in the segment.  A panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, front seats with heating, ventilation and massage functions, a heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, an 18-speaker Devialet audio system plus 50W wireless smartphone charging are all included. An in-car food storage unit can cool items between -6°C and 6°C, and even heat them from 35°C to 50°C. There are three interior colours to choose from: Eclipse Blue, Shoal Green, and Tarim Desert Beige.

From the outside, the BAO 5 Elegance rides 18-inch alloy wheels. Complementing the rugged, upright stance are a set of fixed side steps and integrated roof rails, while customers are presented with the choice of seven exterior colours. Six of these are metallic shades: Snowy White is available free of charge, while Shadow Black, Pinnacle Grey, Wagner Glacier Blue, Dolomite Green and Tarim Polar Gold cost £2,000. A matte finish, Mineral Purple, costs £3,500.

Ultimate: the maximum expression of BAO 5
The Ultimate, priced from £78,880, offers the same high specification as the Elegance, but adds several premium features including 20-inch alloy wheels, electrically deploying side steps, a higher grade of Nappa leather upholstery, ventilated rear seats and a second wireless smartphone charging tray. The Ultimate also introduces DiSus-P suspension. This system introduces air springs with continuous damping and ride-height adjustment, allowing a variation of up to 140mm in body level (90mm up and 50mm down) to negotiate difficult terrain. A self-levelling parking function allows for a perfect platform from which to set up camp on uneven surfaces.

DMO powertrain combines off-road capability, on-road performance and everyday efficiency
The DMO Dual Mode Off-road plug-in hybrid powertrain is optimised for off-road use, including electronic differential locks front and rear, an energy centre lock that can distribute torque between axles 30 times faster than a traditional mechanical setup, and 16 driving modes tailored to a range of driving environments and surfaces.

DMO uses both electric and internal combustion engine elements with each axle driven by its own electric motor; the front unit produces 272PS and the rear offers 388PS, delivering a total system output of 544PS and 760NM of torque. A 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, mounted longitudinally under the bonnet, acts primarily as a generator for the battery, though under high-load conditions, it can drive the wheels directly.

Not only does this endow the BAO 5 with strong yet consistent torque to each axle – ideal for the precise driving styles that are required over difficult terrain – but it also delivers strong on-road performance, too. The BAO 5 is capable of accelerating from 0-62mph in as little as 4.8 seconds in Elegance trim, and 5.0 seconds in Ultimate specification.

Electric energy is stored in the 31.8kWh Blade Battery, which is neatly integrated into the ladder-frame chassis, and returns up to 62 miles of electric range. DC charging at up to 100kW means that a charge from 30-80% takes only 16 minutes.
