Declan Rice has become the latest player to withdraw from the England squad ahead of the upcoming quartet of Nations League games.
The Arsenal man follows in the footsteps of Cole Palmer, who became the first star to drop out of Thomas Tuchel’s squad through injury early on Monday. Rice played the entire 90 minutes as Arsenal fell to a shock and deserved 3-0 loss to Brighton at the weekend.
But like Palmer, an unspecified injury has seen him withdraw from games against Spain, Czechia (twice) and Croatia. Another three have also dropped out: Newcastle’s Tino Livramento and Manchester United duo Kobbie Mainoo and Marcus Rashford.
In their place so far are just two replacements: Morgan Gibbs-White of Nottingham Forest and Everton’s James Garner. It is unclear whether further players will be added before the first game, against world champions Spain at Wembley on Saturday night.
